The Conifer Lobos JV soccer team played against the Evergreen Cougars on October 22nd. Unfortunately, they lost 0-9, just avoiding the mercy rule.
During warmups before the game started, hopes were high.
“[We] aren’t feeling nervous at all,” Freshman Aaron Drake said. “It’s gonna be a fun match.”
Even with a point deficit, some players went home with the look of what they need to improve on for the future season. Their record this season finished as a 2-8-1, which averaged as a 22% win rate.
“I think I did well. There’s always room to improve though,” goalkeeper, Junior Romulo Haydin said.
Working as a team during sports is an important factor, and the Lobos did well representing that. Members of the audience were attempting to keep the energy up by chanting and cheering.
“I think they were doing fine. They can definitely improve on their offense a little, it felt like they were playing defense most of the game,” spectator, Freshman Isaak Jenkins said. “They could work on getting the ball down the field. They could also work on their passing, it seemed like there were a few that were straight to Evergreen rather than our Lobos.”
The Lobos plan to focus on building their style of play with more passing and constant connections to improve their record next year.
“It’s all about coordination. If we can link enough passes and get close enough to the goal [next time], it won’t matter how good the other team is,” Haydin said. “I feel like we played well. I know the score may not have reflected that, but we did really well overall.”
