The girl ran in the ever-darkening hallways, a loud buzzer blared, signaling something she didn’t want to see. The walls and lockers felt as if they were closing in around her. Her eyes frantically darted from left to right trying to find a place to run and hide. Her legs were aching as she ran, her muscles crying out in pain. She quickly noticed a stairwell, a place where she might find refuge from the horrors that would befall her. She pushed herself beyond exhaustion to make it to the safety of the stairs when she tripped, falling on her face. The carpet below her was damp with something. She didn’t want to know what it was, picking her face off the ground, her nose now in agonizing pain she scrambled and crawled towards the door, the hall behind her becoming dark and jaded. She pulled herself up the stairs and quickly managed to stand up. Woozy from the fall and disoriented from the pain she made her way drunkenly up the stairs. Up each floor one by one, every time she passed a level she hoped that what she was running from was not there to greet her. She grabbed at the carpet on the top floor and pulled herself to a classroom, the door unlocked with a click, a break from the horrors of the hallway as she pushed her way inside the safe escape of the room. A woman sat at the desk near the side of the room looking at her and said, “Jennifer you’re late for class again”.
