Conifer High School’s Varsity, JV, and L3 football teams have each run a successful fall season so far with twelve total wins and 3 total losses with only six games left to play: Varsity four, JV two, and L3 one.
“JV, we are winning most of our games,” freshman L3 and JV player Ferrin Murphy said.
From the beginning of the season to October 15, JV has won five of six games, and Varsity has won six of seven games, four of which were secured with an over 40-point lead—the highest being against Skyview and D’Evelyn 56-0.
“We haven’t really had anybody step in our way for a challenge yet, we’re cruising along pretty well,” sophomore Charlie Ostrowski—a Varsity quarterback and kicker—said.
With an overall score of 7-4 in the 24-25 season, Varsity is on track to best that score this year.
“I think the season is going pretty well. We started off stronger than last year and I think we’re going to stay cruising that way,” sophomore Mason Squires said, a Varsity player who plays quarterback and wide receiver.
Players said that part of their success has come from their dedicated coaches.
“I’m proud of our effort. I think our boys are flying around. We’re growing. We’re getting a little bit better. Most of our games, I feel like we’ve been pretty dominant,” coach Matthew Steinfeldt said.
Varsity’s only loss this season has been against Eagle Valley with a score of 27-24.
“We’ve had one setback and that was on the road at Eagle Valley in double overtime and its number three ranked team six in the season index, which is a great place to be,” Steinfeldt said, with Conifer ranked top 3.
Despite the loss, the Lobos still have a few more games before their season ends.
“We got a couple tough games coming up and get a chance to start conference, and there’s a couple teams on that list that we really want to go after this year,” Steinfeldt said.
