The Cinema club is one of the newest clubs at Conifer, allowing students to connect through something they share: community.
“We discuss how it connects to our life, and how it affects us, and how watching these movies relates to our own lives. We learn more about each other with that and learn more about other people in general,” freshman Cinema Club Co-Founder Serena LeRoy said.
The club mainly focuses on film analysis, meeting monthly to watch a film then sharing and comparing their thoughts to see the contrast of it and it’s interesting for them. The club has watched classics like “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “The Great Gatsby,” “The Dark Crystal,” and plans to watch more.
“The whole process for people is thinking [in] what way [the movie] connected to them, and what stuck out the most to them for them to be able to take a theme from that,” Co-Founder Adley Boyd said.

Anyone interested in joining the club can contact LeRoy, Boyd, or Shannon Healey for more information and how to join. At Lobo Night, an event for everybody, though especially freshman, the club sets up a stand and goes into in depth explanations and into the details of their club.
“It’s just for incoming freshmen to figure out if they want to do a club or not and are interested in film,” Boyd said.
The overall craft of film has brought this group of people together to see the cinematography, writing, characters, and everything that gives films personality. Film connects characters and its worlds to people’s day to day lives. These stories told through film capture the hearts and minds of their audiences, the basis of the club’s foundation.
“Watching movies can help us look deeper into everything and see all the details of everything. And that’s important to do in life.” LeRoy said.
