Hey, has anyone heard of the new MEC recenter? No? Well, let me tell you a little bit about this place. The MEC collective is going to be this cool new addition to the Morrison, Evergreen, and Conifer communities.  It is slated to hopefully open if everything goes according to plan they are looking at opening in the fall of 2022.

The mountain communities, although beautiful and packed with wildlife and hiking trails, have long since been limited in the recreation department which means for a long time people have had to commute to Denver or surrounding areas for recreation and entertainment. This lack of local recreation has indirectly and directly led to local money being spent elsewhere, and local youth now always being glued to a screen. 

This MEC recreation will provide a lot more year-round activities for teens and kids such as an indoor ice rink, indoor and outdoor tennis, and pickleball courts, indoor basketball, indoor soccer and lacrosse, and more.

This rec center is going to offer a lot to the mountain communities. Before you say well we already have a few rec centers with some of these things, and yes we do but what could be so bad about making a bigger one with all of it in one place. This rec center will help bring back to the mountain communities instead of driving an hour to Denver and then having to go eat down there and then drive all the way back home when you could simply drive maybe 20 minutes max to this new MEC center and then go for a nice dinner in your own community. 

It’s hard to beat the natural beauty of the foothills which I’ve called home nearly all my life, but it can get boring from time to time whether it be bad weather or just a lack of options. 

In this young journalist’s opinion the addition of this MEC center would be hugely beneficial to our mountain communities, not only for the financial benefits it would bring, the employment opportunities, but most of all the year-round localized recreation. 

So I don’t know about you, but they’ve got my vote.
