(Left to right) Bryce Merrill, Angel Montemayor, Shalon Anwar, and Justice Steele prepare for opening night. “It’s been an adventure on and off the stage, working around everything. But we’re a family so we are getting through,” senior Justice Steele said. The show opens on Friday, in the Conifer High School cafetorium.

Conifer Theater Company is putting on a musical this spring and with the help of the audience, it is sure to be a night full of laughs and surprises. The play is being directed by Mx. Archer, Conifer’s own drama teacher. The play is, at its heart a comedy, and leads to laugh after laugh on and off the stage.

“[Because of Covid-19] we can barely do what we usually do in theater, so we decided to do something totally irreverent. Every rehearsal we are just laughing, and it’s so funny,” director E.P. Archer said.

The show is called ‘The Oregon Trail’ a spin off of the game released in 1985. The musical follows a family as they set out across the Oregon trail, facing the challenges that come with it.

It will be full of twists and turns, and the audience has their very own part to play, getting to pick the names of characters as well as a few other things throughout the show. This was another reason the show was picked, as it will help bring us together in this time of uncertainty.

Conifer Theater Company will be putting on four shows instead of the usual three to allow more spectators to come see the musical. Even with all the restrictions implemented for theater, the company is pushing through to produce a show everyone will love.

“We are three feet apart the whole time, which has made things hard, but I’m excited to put the show together,” senior Justice Steele said.

Steele is playing the mother in the play and along with the rest of the cast is excited to produce a show.

“I’m excited to actually put on a show,” Sinnock said.

After the fall show was cancelled the theater company is back up and running and ready to have an audience.

The show opens Friday April 23 at 7:00 and runs throughout the weekend. If you want to support the Conifer Theater Company buy tickets at https://www.onthestage.com/show/conifer-high-school/the-trail-to-oregon-79273/
